Review of Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) by Anahita S — 30 May 2010
For the person who doesn't know much about Capitalism, the movie might be educational or interesting. For anyone with any kind of background knowledge, this movie didn't cut it AT ALL. Sicko was 1 million times better.
I think Michael Moore lost his touch with this one, or it can be argued that he over-simplified it to be able to reach the masses. This wasn't even Capitalism 101, it would be Capitalism 50. There is no excuse for the shortage of useful & relevant info in this movie - if I were making this movie, I could have gathered 300 hours worth of useful footage & info.
The only thing I thought was slick about this movie, is how Moore argues that Capitalism is anti-Christian & he makes it a point to convince us that he's religious. As a matter a fact, it seems to me Moore appears "softer" or "calmer" than previous & is constantly trying to prove himself in an effort not to look like a radical.
Smart tactic if you want to blindside them & get them that way...But common Michael who are you trying to sucker here? Anybody who has taken any University Sociology or Economics Theory class will tell you.
..what is the opposite of Capitalism? Socialism/Communism. Do the Socialists/Communists support religion? NO. Why? Because, besides money, religion is the opiate of the masses - another tool created by the upper class to keep poor ignorant people in their la-la land while they get ripped off & remain in a state of alienation.
Movie makers these days don't have the balls to tell it how it is. You always have to "read between the lines". Well in a documentary, you shouldn't have to read between anything - they should tell it to you like it is.
If you want to see a documentary about Capitalism without mind games, watch Zeitgeist - it's long & requires patience, but is a much better choice.
