Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Dale S — 01 Feb 2010
What an painfully creepy film this is. Cape fear really showcases how great an actor De Niro really is, so convincingly twisted and devoted to his revenge, that I was wincing in my seat in a mixture of awe of the dialogue and disgust at how evil Cady was.
As you can tell, this movie was a thriller, if tad cliche'd, with the death of the lawyer's protector and cady dressing up as a lady, but still it is done in a deep and dark way, which seems less psychotic and more methodical, almost too thought out.
If you like films that generally are terrifying, in a semi-realistic way then i'd recommend this. The cinematography of the boat scene, was both clever and consistant, with several shots coming from all directions stabilising a horrifying atmosphere.
My last point, one of De Niro's greats and Scorsese's odd gems.
