Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Tor M — 27 Oct 2014
A classic Scorsese-thriller and also a remake - the original from 1962. I didn't know about that until I read it afterwards though.
The build up is great, the performances are good and the tension is there. The last half an hour or so is one big intensity ride actually - maybe not the most impressive one, but still. The story is all right, and it's in many ways just as it should be. It's never really interesting and it's never really thrilling either. It could work out still, but sadly the characters does some stupid stuff and we also get some pretty weird effects near the end. Some horrible make-up jobs appears then too. It hasn't aged all that well I'm afraid, so that kills much of the fun for me. The brilliant De Niro, that brings a bit of fear is also rocking the fattest cigars I have seen. That's a plus.
6 out of 10 pairs of bad guy underwear.
