Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Kyle B — 06 Dec 2014
Definitely, Cape Fear would not be under Scorsese's top directional efforts but nevertheless a very powerful movie. The film often takes use of old school cinematography which under the care of a master director like Scorsese just gives the movie all the more suspense and scares. However, the film definitely falls short at certain points.
The whole point of the movie is how it starts as a normal movie with real life problems and issues and how it all just blows up to a suspense thriller throughout the coarse of the movie. However during this transitional period of the film, many aspects of the movie are not justified at all which seems very uncharacteristic of Scorsese and his style but so is the tone of the movie itself.
On the acting front, De Niro comes up with an incredible performance and so does all the others such as Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis.
Despite the obvious flaws in the film, its still an enthralling experience for the most part with some incredible shots which left me puzzled on how they pulled it off.
Definitely worth a watch despite the flaws.
