Review of Can't Hardly Wait (1998) by John S — 10 Sep 2008
You know when I first saw this in theatres I was slightly nonplussed. But every viewing since, this movie has just grown on me. Incredibly funny, talented cast, and extremely deft direction (especially for first timers). The mediocre performance as well as the disappointing results for Josie & The Pussycats (which is decent for what it is) have unfortunately kept Kaplan and Elfont from more directing gigs.
Seth Green is hilarious. Ethan Embry is dead on earnest. Hewitt is hot. Facinelli is a great jerk. Nice cameos by Breckin Myer, Jerry OConnell, and Melissa Joan Hart.
Whenever I watch this movie (which I'm about to again), I never think of missed jokes or opportunities...it's all there. I hope that they release the uncut version someday though.
