Yes it's an old cheezy movie, but it good & that's one of the reasons I enjoy this film. Yes it has some of your typical high school movie stuff (actually toned down because this was 87) but do really like the scene where Ron stops the fight between the jock & the nerd in the courtyard.
Definitely has a message for everyone.
