Review of Cannibal Holocaust (1980) by Steven B — 08 Feb 2009
Ruggero Deodato's brutal slice of exploitation has been (quite wrongly) heavily censored in numerous countries around the world. Whilst appealing to the shallow 'gorehounds', Deodato's cinematic masterpeice goes beneath pure violence and shocks and asks deep questions about morality, racism and the western culture.
Streets ahead of it's time, this is without question one of the most important films to ever be released. This film will shock, of that there is no doubt, possbibly offend and repulse some viewers, however the harsh grimness and sheer brutality portrayed in this film - really must be seen by one and all.
An absolute stunning film in every respect well deserving my 10/10 rating. (n.b. To anyone interested in viewing this film DO NOT buy the film in UK as it is heavily censored by the BBFC - search for the American print which remains uncut).
