Review of Candyman (2021) by Richardsayre — 30 Sep 2021
Nia Dacosta's CANDYMAN is a frighteningly relevant, creepy, and damn beautiful movie to look at. Co-written by Jordan Peele, this updated look at the mythology of Candyman and what truly makes the beast is a splendid, gory good time.
Featuring a powerhouse performance from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the film does a number of things right, yet is a tad too short and leaves you wanting. The direction and cinematography is about as gorgeous as it gets with technically impressive shots of reflections and mirrors that fill you with dread.
One of the best films of 2021.
