Review of Candyman (1992) by A.l V — 31 May 2009
Candyman is a fantastic and original horror from the mind of Clive Barker, the twisted soul who brought us the Hellraiser series.
Based on a short story from Barkers Book of Blood, it follows Helen Lyle (Madsen) as she atempts to gather information on a local legend for a thiesis.
As she gets closer to the truth the legend in question seeks her out and a series of murders starts to happen and Helen is the suspect.
It is very original and quite frightening in some places, it is also quite deep for a horror movie, having underlying comentary on racism, and society at the time, which is still true in some places today.
Tony Todd is excellent as the title character, truly scary.
Even though it now seems a bit slow to get started it is still a well shot and scripted horror, which has a lot more to offer than most.
