Review of Candyman (1992) by Kevin N — 02 Oct 2010
One of the defining horror pictures of the 1990s. Candyman himself, I think, is one of the most terrifying monsters of all time. Tony Todd's turn as the urban legend is full-blooded and feels so real that he becomes one of those villains (like Hannibal Lecter) who is strangely appealing while remaining utterly monstrous.
The whole cast does a great job, though, and Virginia Madsen especially shines as Helen Lyle- the journalist who becomes to obsessed with her latest report and pays for it dearly. Photography by Anthony B.
Richmond turns this into a gorgeous slow ride into horror and Philip Glass' score (one of his best!) is guaranteed to chill.
