Review of Candyman (1992) by Charlotte E — 07 Apr 2013
Candyman is a beautiful Horror film that is both eerie, scary and creepy at the same time and it is also the best Clive Barker adaptation since Hellraiser and Dread. The plot of this film is about a University student name Helen Lyle who is investigating the myths and back story of The Candyman a slave who was murdered by an angry mob and when Helen started saying his name five times in the mirror she is soon haunted by the ghost of the Candyman and she soon discovers that the Candyman also has plans to be his victim and Helen also discovered that the Candyman also kidnapped a child and Helen must find the child who the Candyman abducted before she becomes his next victim.
To be honest I love this movie and it is just as good as Hellraiser and the whole film has one of the most beautiful images in Horror history. Although I never read Clive Barker's short story The Forbidden which is the short story in Books Of Blood volume two and the film is based on that story I still enjoy this film and if I get a copy of Clive Barker's Books Of Blood Volume two I would like to see the difference of the short story and the film.
What's great about Candyman is that the whole film has a lot of bright ideas thanks to writer and director Bernard Rose for his stylish directing and thanks also to producer Clive Barker there are lots of great ideas in the movie.
The film's atmosphere is super eerie and I love the eerie shots of the Cabrini Green building even Candyman's lair is full of atmosphere and I love how the movie is shot well in a lot of parts and overall I love the atmosphere of the film a lot.
The other things I like about this film is that the whole has an incredible soundtrack and the soundtrack of the film is so smooth, beautiful and dark as well and it gives the whole movie a deep feel and I really couldn't stop listening to that piano tune in the film and I just love how beautiful the soundtrack is in this movie a lot and the soundtrack is very good overall.
The other things that I like about Candyman is that the Candyman ghost himself is super creepy and his voice is so deep and chilling and the way he looks like in the film is creepy and there are lots of great things about the Candyman in the movie and I love how he has bees all over his chest which is one of the most disturbing parts of the whole film and one of the scariest moments in the whole movie as well and I just love how The Candyman looks like in this movie and Tony Todd plays the character really well overall.
The other things I like about this movie is that the whole film is well paced. The start of the film is creepy and dark. The next half is brooding and eerie and the climax until the finale is full of twists and turns and I just love how this movie is seriously well paced.
The last things I like about Candyman is that the whole film is full of gory and disturbing parts and although there are just a few gore kills in this movie the film is still top notch disturbing and there are a couple of gory parts in the movie like the head psychiatrist death in the movie is intense and gory while Trevor's death in the finale is gory and brutal at the same time.
And the shots of women covered in blood is probably one of the most disturbing moments in the whole film. Unlike Hellraiser where the kills are super gory, violent, shocking and repulsive. The kills in Candyman are overall disturbing and gory in certain parts.
Now the acting is great. The casts did a really good job with they're work in the film. Tony Todd did a really good job with his work in the film as the ghost Candyman and I love how he played the character really well in the film and he's just creepy in this movie and he plays the character really well a lot and Virginia Madsen did a good job with her role in the film as the main character Helen Lyle and she looks so young and pretty in her early times since her acting in the film is really good she also has a really good physical appearance in the film and she looks pretty in her early films a lot and overall the casts did a really good job with they're roles in the film a lot.
Director and Writer Bernard Rose did a really good and fascinating job with his work on the film a lot and I totally like Bernard Rose's work in the film overall and I can't wait to see what he will do next and thanks also to producer Clive Barker the movie is really well made from the beginning until the end.
Overall Candyman gets a 10/10 because this is a really impressive Clive Barker adaptation that delivers the goods of Clive's previous work Hellraiser. Please bring in a Candyman remake this time Mr.
Clive Barker.
