Review of Candyman (1992) by Eric C — 22 Nov 2009
An amazing piece of fiction has been by Clive Barker and now it has been transferred to an amazing film by him as well. Here we get a real world type of film, set in an urban hell, where even the most violent people are scared of what is made flesh when you call his name.
Tony Todd is absolutely addicting as Candyman, a hellish vision of a man who was wronged in his life and must go on with his hatred and anger until he finds someone to exist with him.
Virginia Madsen, is an actress I have only taken notice of in Highlander II and in both films she is great. There are several moments in this film where you wonder if she will fight back or surrender. She does a great job in this film. The look of the film is quite amazing, they shot in the real housing projects and were reportatly in danger each time they shot there. Thank you to Hollywood for not wearing this character down like they have with others.
4 out of 5 stars.
TRIVIA:
The scene in which Virginia Madsen is hyptnotized by Candyman, she was really hyptnotized. So the look in her face and eyes were for real.
