Review of Candy (2013) by Zach R — 26 Apr 2010
Fine composition here; unfortunately, there's not much reason to care for the characters. In the vein of 'Requiem' and 'Trainspotting' (pun intended), 'Candy' tries to do the whole look-how-bad-drugs-are-thing; makes a good point, but doesn't give a reason for the viewer to care: I liked how it was divided into three segments; heaven, earth, and hell.
Kind of showed how drugs are awesome for a bit, then how you need to get clean and get back to reality, and then how you just hit rock bottom. The 'earth' part was definitely the best, and it was utterly shocking how painfully real and shocking things got; I won't spoil anything, but there's some jaw-on-the-floor, gut-wrenching sequences.
I see no reason to recommend this; I was on a Heath Ledger kick, and I was satisfied.
