Review of Candy (2006) by Alyssa N — 15 Jun 2008
Heath Ledger, Abbie Cornish, and Geoffrey Rush are all brilliant in this movie about heroin addiction, and, along with some flawless cinematography, that's what really sets this apart from other movies with similar themes.
You, like Legder and Cornish's characters, get swept away by their naive, blissful relationship in the beginning, which makes it easier to feel for them when things take a horrific turn and start going downhill.
Whether happy and free or dismal and hopeless, the mood is always captured perfectly, even if the plot itself is predictable and goes to few places we havenâ??t seen before. It's also hard not to be tempted to compare this to Requiem for a Dream, which affects you on a whole other level and stays with you much longer.
