Review of Candy (2006) by Clint D — 22 Jul 2011
The bottom line here: don't do drugs! "Candy" takes you on an emotional roller coaster as you get to know the two central (and pretty much only) characters, Candy and Dan. Ledger is in control as always, he has more of a grip on his drug addiction than his female counterpart but Cornish turns in the more exciting performance.
Aside from the strong acting typical for a cautionary drug tale, what killed "Candy" for me was the unrelenting darkness of the subject matter. Director Neil Armfield simply beats the audience down until they can take no more and will either lose patience or their minds.
Lighten up a bit Neil!
