Review of Camp (2003) by Kgaard . — 03 Nov 2004
Breakfast at Tiffany?s (Blake Edwards, 1961) .
Generally pleasant (okay, pleasant's not the right word here, but I'm in a hurry), and as fluff as one can be in a film about whores, although it?s hard to completely ignore Mickey Rooney?s racist turn as Holly Golightly?s ?uptight? Japanese neighbor. .
Camp (Todd Graff, 2003) .
The word that comes most to mind here is ?twee.? A gaggle of high schoolers descend on an arty summer camp and have maudlin relationships. Some of the music is nifty. .
Black Hawk Down (Ridley Scott, 2001) .
Scott puts you right in it; it?s like someone grabbing your spinal cord and giving it a good shake..
Shaun of the Dead (Edgar Wright, 2004) .
Shaun doesn?t exactly overshoot the mark, satirically, but it?s very funny in a rambling, shambling way. .
Hm, judging from these, it appears I prefer violence to sex. How American of me..
