Review of Calvary (2014) by Colin W — 12 May 2014
This is a deeply moving, well-paced, well acted, tragi-comic thriller that complements a raft of other recent movies that have explored the darker underbelly of Irish Catholicism. It is by turns funny, threatening, literate and touching.
My only concern is with the nature of the central characters. Without being at all familiar with this part of rural Ireland, are the locals really so worldly and knowing? I look forward to comments from people who are well acquainted with the area or who actually live there.
