Review of Calvary (2014) by Oj H — 05 Feb 2016
A very solid film all the way through. I'd highly recommend it for a night when you would just want to watch something with a good story and interesting characters. It is not fast paced in any way but Gleeson's performance will keep you watching. A perfect small film set in some obscure Irish town.
Cinematography was solid.
Acting was pretty great.
Music was very interesting(in it's choices).
Story was solid... although, this is one, to get the gist of the theme, you'd need to pay attention to.
Production design was solid.
Although, with everything "solid", ultimately, this would be a film that would get lost. And something, that in the end, you will more than likely forget. There wasn't anything in there, to really grab you, and sit inside your mind. No imagery or moment that will haunt you in any way. That is the only aspect that this film was missing.
-85%.
