Review of Calvary (2014) by Ryan H — 26 Jul 2014
I rarely describe a film as powerful, but Calvary is powerful in how it presents an accurate depiction of our modern ignorance and even Irish life. Despite what you think of John McDonagh, this is NOT a comedy.
It's pure kitchen sink drama as the film focuses on the day to day life of a small rural town with little excitement. It's grounded and humanised and while the characters are inherently unlikeable, it serves to remind the viewer just how frustrating and bland us humans really are.
