Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by H G — 25 Dec 2017
Don't believe the hype. This is a mediocre little movie masquerading as fine art with pretentious dialogue and a fairy tale setting in Italy. If the same story was set in Alabama with a teenage girl and a young D.
A. , this would be Roy Moore's creepy story. While the young actor is much older in real life than he is made to look in the film, I was uncomfortable watching a teenager having a love affair with an older man given the recent allegations coming out under the #metoo movement.
I'm not convinced that a teenager (no matter how precocious or intelligent or whether above the age of consent or even if the teenager makes the first move ) can have a consensual relationship with a thirtysomething, and this was not explored in the movie at all.
