Though beautifully filmed and scored, with generally capable performances, this overrated, tiresome, trite exercise in tedium disappoints overall. With a script characterized by bloated, stilted, implausible dialogue and a narrative that's been done countless times before, there's precious little about this annoying slog that we haven't already seen many, many times previously.

Save for one particularly touching scene toward the film's close that helps to redeem much of what precedes it, "Call Me By Your Name" fails to live up to its potential - or its hype.
