Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Karen H — 06 Mar 2018
This is a stupid shallow movie, with thin plotting and pretentious dialogue. I don't like the blond 24-looking-like-41 years old american, he acts like he's made out of wood. I don't like the spoilt brat elio either.
precocious, super well read, always distant with the occasional exaggerated teenage tantrum. like "crazy spastic dancing". the nuances aren't nuances, they're bright colored taken right out of a travellers guide for the garda lake.
the parents are irritatingly "liberal", and that's what's missing in this film: some kind of friction. everytone is happy and horny and the landscape is beautiful. I just dont believe this over privileged upper middle class family.
I just dont believe what they say and do. I have no particular problem with a 24-year-old man falling for a 17 years old. it's not my main concern. my main concern is that it's pretentious, cliché laden, boring, overlong and pretty stupid.
