Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Marty W — 25 Jan 2018
Multilingual rich people with chiseled bodies and faces, spending the summer in a museum quality Italian villa. This, we're told, is a "coming of age" film. Perhaps they mean the age of Merchant Ivory.
The story seems based on a pizza delivery boy "short feature" while the camera takes every extravagant opportunity to scan the boy's body. He is cute. I will grant him that. But the story is trite and the acting is corny. As a gay man I feel like someone is pandering to me. Lots of skin with references to archaic social issues. Everything an old queen would want? Not quite. How about a good story and some good acting? We don't need charity.
