Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Robby C — 30 Jun 2018
An absolute masterpiece, brilliantly shot and directed, while also filled with great performances and has an incredible screenplay by James Ivory. This film is a triumph in every sense. Every aspect of the cinematography is great, and the dreamy effect caused by it is only enhanced by a gourgeous color palette.
Guadagnino and Ivory manage to explore deep and sensitive themes with impressive depth and sensibility, crafting an original romance that touches on themes such as first love, desire, sexuality, and the pains of love.
This film is also in full supply of memorable and meaningful quotes, and it would be unfair no to highlight the monologue delivered by Michael Stuhlbarg's character towards the end of the movie Hopefully, "Call Me By Your Name" will be remembered as one of the best films of the 2010's.
