Shocking...in 1979! The version I saw included Bob Guccione's edits. It's seedy in places, and some scenes (e.g., the "pastoral" scenes) are reminiscent of 1970's kitsch. Nervertheless, there IS some fine acting.
Malcolm McDowell plays a chilling Caligula. This in more in the order of an art film than (dated) soft porn. A classic, but not for all the right reasons.
