Review of Calcutta (1969) by Dan K — 14 Jul 2012
Louis Malle's "Calcutta" was released separately from his "Phantom India", it was shot at the same time during his excursion with the documentary crew, yet it was released separately since Malle thought Calcutta had so much more.
True, but I felt "Calcutta" lacked the construction of the "Phantom India" series and I felt the expansion of a 60 minute episode to a 99 minute feature was not as good as it could have been.
Oh well. Still an essential part of Malle's India documentaries.
