Review of Cairo Time (2009) by Itai B — 30 Jan 2010
This seemed like a great opportunity to see Cairo, the great oriental city. And indeed there are some pretty glimpses of it in full color, HD or whatever it was shot on.
But when you get down to the street level, the day to day coffee houses little adventures our heroine goes through, it all feels made up and beautified. Utopia. That's OK, but it felt not real, and I wanted to see something real, not a poster.
The movie reminded me of Le voyage en Arménie, another "western woman goes to an exotic country to meet with her husband, but he is delayed and she gets to know the place better" kind of plot.
Lost in Translation is another thought here, Cairo doesn't even get close to that masterpiece.
Last but not least, the poor Israeli soldiers portrayal, as evil and heartless (yes, I'm Israeli), left me no choice...
:-).
