Review of Cairo Time (2009) by Kate B — 10 Jul 2012
Cairo Time says what it wants to say and leaves a lot more unsaid. So much so that the viewer has to fill in some of the "blanks" in the various relationships shown on screen. And that's just as it should be, to be honest.
Cairo Time doesn't jump from one thing to another or have grand ambitions in mind. Rather, it depicts adults doing what adults do: bury the attraction they may feel to another person, fulfill their commitments and honor one another even with sins of omission.
It is a slow film and almost defies categorization because it hits on so many notes without lingering on any of them. Does it provide all the answers? Nope. Is it true to life in that regard? Absolutely.
