Review of Café Society (2016) by Ken S — 03 Oct 2016
Woody Allen's 2016 effort is decent. It has plenty of Allen tropes that we all know so well, but they don't feel as tired as they did in his last film and, while a lot of the story threads don't totally gel, it is a mostly enjoyable picture.
Classy production design and a solid cast too. I am actually not much of a fan of either Jesse Eisenberg or Kristen Stewart, but they both do a decent job in this, even if Eisenberg's obvious Woody Allen is distracting (especially considering Allen narrates the whole thing).
Speaking of Allen's narration, it felt a bit like it was added in just to sort of make the plot make total sense. Anyhow harmless entertainment, not great, not bad.
