Review of Caesar and Cleopatra (1945) by Ethan F — 20 Jun 2009
Not just another Cleopatra movie. This movie stars "the english rose" Vivien Leigh who makes doesn´t make herself Cleopatra but Cleopatra to Vivien Leigh. It doesnt happen to often nowadays (unfortunately we dont have the same screen legends, the same characters like we had in the golden days) that such a colorful character actress like Vivien Leigh play such a colorful character like Cleopatra.
I have seen Claudette Colbert and Elizabeth Taylor potraying this historical female, but neither of them with the same spirit as Vivien Leigh.
The story isnt as good as Cleopatra (1934) or Cleopatra (1963), and it actually lacks lots of events that you had wished to see, and Claude Rains doesnt fit as good as Rex Harrison for example in Cleopatra (1963), but this is not a bad movie at all. Vivien just naturally lifts the movie like she has done so many times before and makes it really good.
