Review of Cabin Fever (2003) by Dustin C — 08 Apr 2013

Why do-sent anyone get this film, I do wonder sometimes. It's a black comedy horror film!!!! it's meant to be funny and absurd. Just look at the PANCAKES!!! bit. What I love about this film is that it feels like it's directly from the 80's, even down to the way it's shot, and I love just how fucking odd and funny it is, it's completely off the wall in parts especially that mental ending.

Cabin fever harks back to a time when horror was outrageous, unpredictable, ballsy and insanely fucked up. The sort of films where your never sure what sort of messed up shit your gonna see next. This film has more in common with the evil dead or bad taste, two other wonderfully kooky splatter comedy horrors.

The problem is that horror these days fits in to a neat, bland little pg-13 labeled box, and that's what most people are used to now. The endless piss poor asian horror re-makes, bloodless, scareless so called slasher movies (prom night 08, fucking awful) what happened to horror movies? when you go and see a horror film, it shouldn't be a studio film, a clean cut/focused grouped thing, it should be nasty, down and dirty, weird, nightmarish, intense, fucked up, gore drenched, insanely sick and twisted.

These sort of movies arnt meant to be safe, they are forbidden fruit, the sort of movies your not allowed to watch when your younger so have to watch them sneakily. Cabin fever harks gleefully back to that time, the golden age of horror ( the 70's and 80's) It is a true cult classic and ranks Eli Roth alongside Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson, may he continue to make such disgusting films, and keeping real horror undead and well.
