Review of Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009) by Kari K — 19 Oct 2010
The oriiginal Cabin Fever was a brutal horror-comedy that featured equal parts laughs and cringes, and this sequel, which is not directed by Eli Roth, surprisingly provides a similar mix of entertainment.
In fact, Cabin Fever 2 progresses further than its predecessor by becoming a pure comedy with the blackest possible jokes. In many ways, I admire Cabin Fever 2 because it does not indulge in the winking, self-conscious humor that many horror-comedies, like the Scream franchise, pursue.
Instead, it understands that the horror genre itself can be humorous in all its deathly blackness. Cabin Fever 2 features hilariously brutal death scenes, cartoon renditions of infection (and an infectious soundtrack), a message about the awfulness of high school Prom, teenage strip shows, inappropriate sex scenes, and many other unforgettably/twistedly hilarious moments that exhibit a higher level of cleverness than most sequels can lay claim to.
