Review of Cabaret (1981) by David Z — 13 Nov 2007
Quite a brilliant movie but don't expect to see something resembling the original show or the Mendes revival. The movie's quite fantastic but Fosse allows Minelli to be Minelli too often (oddly enough she shines more in the book scenes than in the musical numbers.
) Fosse's direction generally shines though, the ensemble cast gives fantastic performances consistently, and the messages of Mr. Isherwood's Berlin Stories are still relevant over 60 years later.
