Review of Byzantium (2013) by Brian C — 26 Jan 2014
Absolutely fantastic. Byzantium is a vampire story, but it really is more of a story of a mother and daughter trying to make ends meet. Eleanor tells her 200 year old story to a boy she likes and things begin to fall apart for her and Clara.
Relationships is where this story hits hardest and best. The relationship between the two main characters is complex, and deep. They want to fit in, but at the same time really need to keep as disconnected with all around them for their own safety.
Their history is quite fascinating. Told as flashbacks throughout the narrative, we begin to see how tragic both of their lives were, and really builds a strong interest in their plight.
Definitely worth a watch.
