Review of Butter (2012) by Mike C — 28 Jan 2013
Vaguely funny movie about the world of butter sculpting...at least in Iowa. Garner's husband is the best butter sculptor around but it is time for him to step down. Garner's character loves the power of being famous and decides to compete herself. Unfortunately, she has to compete against a young black prodigy who is adopted by Alicia Silverstone and Rob Corrdry.
It's supposed to be satire and I often don't get satire. My guess is that the movie makes fun of some Midwest/Conservative values...quite sure on this. Probably also making light of the win-at-all-cost attitude taken by many. Not going to call it brilliant as ifs fairly basic stuff. It's funny in a few places. I'm not going to complain about Olivia Wilde being a dancer/call girl. The most enjoyable aspect is that it's a movie about butter sculpting. That's a new one for me and I can appreciate that.
