Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Balraj D — 26 Aug 2010
Butch Cassidy: If he'd just pay me what he's spending to make me stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him. You probably inherited every penny you got!
A brilliant Western with Newman and Redford perfectly capturing the outlaw image. The pair are undeniably cool and the film as a whole is full of suspense and action throughout. Butch and Kid are on the run for the majority of the film, which is constantly moving, and keeping audiences on their toes. Suprisingly, the action seems to take a back seat in favour of comedy, making the film one of the most interesting Westerns i've seen. The final image seems to sum up the film, as one of brotherhood and the strength of friendship. Overall an explosive and funny film, with plenty of suspense, but a distinct lack of huge memorable moments.
