Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Gavin M — 13 Feb 2011
I thought this film would be a lot better than I found it. It did not really feel much like a Western to me despite the outlaw gang, the train and bank robberies, the guns and the posse. Moreover, the song 'raindrops keep falling on my head' was out of place.
In addition, the film came over as smug and self-satisfied. This began to grate after a while. Furthermore, it was similar to the A-team episodes of the 1980s where you don't see anybody dieing, wounded or hurt, despite the massive explosions and the gun battles with automatic weapons!! In spite of this, I thought the ending was good with the screen frozen as they went out to meet the army.
Overall I think this movie is overated and disappointing.
