Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Stephen E — 17 Jun 2012
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is a film of great writing, direction, and cinematography, but the performances of Paul Newman and Robert Redford are what really elevate the production. Their chemistry and comic interplay are what really got me involved, and it's surprising how much depth they actually bring to their characters.
But while the film as a whole is wonderfully entertaining, it does have its problems. As much as I like the score, it doesn't work. In fact, it practically ruins several great scenes, with the "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" sequence and the photo montage near the middle being two prime examples.
But as hindering to the production as both are, I'm still a big fan.
