Review of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) by Josh B — 20 Sep 2015
Decades now from when it was released, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" has held a reputation of being the exceptional American film in the late 1960's. But, today that reputation ultimately feels misleading; and even back in its own time, it is hard to understand how it garnered such a reputation.
The frustrating pace the film takes is a constant irritant that distracts from Newman and Redford's chemistry, but the film has a solid first 40 to 50 minutes that promises good things to come. The promise is broken, of course, which makes the frustrating stoop all the more irritating, knowing that there was so much potential behind the film, only to be wasted on pointless locations.
