Review of Buster's Mal Heart (2017) by Michael S — 13 Aug 2018
As a study in human psychopathology, ungrounded thought processes, and mental/emotional breakdown, this is a great movie, and Rami's performance of his stock character quite good. But the ending, which seems to suggest that the writer/director were aiming at more than mere cinematic psychoanalysis, sucks. It adds nothing to the meaning of the movie or the analysis already conducted, and may in fact leave the naive viewer a little dazed and confused, wondering if maybe the DELIRIOUS stupidity of the espoused PHILOSOPHIES aren't so DELIRIOUS after all.
Is the psycho-emotional-spiritual jab intentional? Who can tell. All I know is that it is not often a movie is ruined in the last thirty seconds of film. For this singular cinematic achievement, and for the awesome visuals and acceptable performances, we give this movie two stars.
