Review of Bushwick (2017) by Brandon D — 25 Aug 2017
I think this movie is decent enough to kill almost two hours. I find the political message it sends hilarious though. *Small Spoliers* The movie pushes the exact point of the 2nd amendment in the US constitution. One of the "invading" soldiers are taken hostage and he explains that the Southern states are leaving the union and that they are taking New York as a choke point to get congress and the President to publicly accept the change. The soldier then goes on to say they expected to take NY easily as its made of minorities and guns are illegal. But when the soldiers encountered so much resistance they were given orders to shoot on site.
I think it's hilarious as this is the point of the second ammendment and the movie drives it home perfectly. The only reason New York (in the movie) didn't fall like sitting ducks as the "South" expected was because of the guns that the "people" have illegally. The 2nd ammendment wasn't just created for stopping your own government from becoming tyrannical but to stop invading nations from being able to hold their ground if they did attack. There is a reason the first thing that communists, socialists and dictators always do when they take over a country (at first peacefully). TAKE THE PEOPLE'S GUNS!
Watch this movie and you'll realize that guns are the only thing keeping us safe from any threat foreign or domestic. I'm sure the movies creators did not intend this as the movie drives home some serious stereotypes and is even told through the lens of the white protagonist. Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason as they mostly hold true for large groups, in general. I'm tired of hearing that guns are bad, and I'll parrot the old adage, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Just because I want to keep my guns doesn't mean I'm a racist, homophobic, xenophobic bigot!
