Review of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007) by J D — 22 Nov 2007
While it's based on the book of the same name, this only covers a very small piece of the history that the book tells, the last real resistance of the native peoples before the U.S. government took complete control.
It is an accurate, heartbreaking look at those days, albeit much more bloodless retelling than the actual events. And all things considered, a fairly even-handed look at the actions of all involved. Considering the scope of the book, and considering the high bar HBO has set for home entertainment, this film gives us a glimpse of what could be done if the full scope of Brown's novel were adapted a la great series like "Rome" and "Deadwood".
