Review of Burnt Offerings (1976) by Gordon T — 16 Nov 2009
Regardless of what "they" say, BURNT OFFERINGS is a frightening, terrifying movie.
The Grinning Hearse Driver and the last ten minutes of BURNT OFFERINGS drove me up the wall when I was 7 and BURNT OFFERINGS premiered on ABC-TV's Movie of the Week.
Dan Curtis of DARK SHADOWS fame directed after having been "traded" the project by the people who wanted to do ONE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA; Dan Curtis owned rights to Grey's THE HOODS and "Sergio Leone, et. al." owned the rights to Marasco's BURNT OFFERINGS.
In a year after the trade, Curtis gave us BURNT OFFERINGS and 8 years after the trade Leone gave us ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA fares much better with "the critics" than BURNT OFFERINGS.
