Review of Burnt by the Sun (1994) by Fiv - — 10 Aug 2007
Well, wasn't this a delectable feature. On one hand, it definitely harks back to some familiar aspects of our collective east European past. Relations between people are not diluted with unnecessary restrictions - there is no care to be artificially pleasant or politically correct.
As things should be. On another hand, the so called Soviet machine is ever-present; it disrupts the almost carnivalesque 'everyday' quite effectively. While that side of the reality might appear grim, the characters still manage to LIVE as opposed to mere survival.
This was truly a gem!
