Review of Burn After Reading (2008) by Esteban G — 28 Dec 2011
The Coen brothers continue to make excellent movies. After their latest hit, No Country For Old Men, they go back to the dark comedy and deliver a great script. This film works much better than their previous movie of the same genre, Ladykillers, however I cannot say it is their best work as Fargo and No Country For Old Men are still better movies.
This movie did have a lot of things going for it such as an excellent cast. Brad Pitt is extremely funny playing the stupid gym employee who finds the CIA agents disc on the floor and uses it to blackmail him.
This agent is played very well by John Malcovich. These two actors are probably the highlight of the movie but you still have George Clooney, Frances McDormand, and Richard Jenkins who also give good performances.
The cast is what this movie has going for it and the script is also very well written. However if you are not into dark comedies then you will not want to see this film. If you are then you are in for a treat.
In my opinion however, In Bruges was a better dark comedy so if you havent seen that film then you will want to check it out.
