Review of Burn After Reading (2008) by Conner W — 18 Feb 2012
This was a movie where I didn't laugh out loud as much, yet found comical, if that makes sense. It's a prestigious, arthouse comedy, like Charlie Wilson's War. It's not a Tropic Thunder or Pineapple Express where the point of the movie is to try to get you to laugh as much as the filmmakers can, but a "I'm going to make you think about the subject matter and the plot so you can see how witty and clever I can be".
For instance, I would think about what was going on and then say to myself, "oh yeah that is pretty funny", but nothing like when I saw Tropic Thunder and was just out loud laughing most of the time. A different kind of comedy is all it was.
However, there were some laugh out loud moments for me, I mean it is a COMEDY right lol. Mostly with Brad Pitt's character, because that's how people would normally react to a character of such. Definitely a type of movie I'd love to watch and get into.
I'll definitely watch it a second time soon because the guy I unexpectedly sat next to in the theater hadn't showered in A WEEK! So that kind of took me out of the dream mode that a good movie puts me into. Totally didn't know the Coens did The Lady Killers by the way lol.
