Review of Burlesque (2010) by Vinicius D — 27 Jan 2012
Let me start out by saying, I never had a desire to see this movie. However, I managed to catch it on a premium movie channel one late night and decided to see what it was all about - I was bored and nothing else was on. Burlesque is a huge waste of time. In fact, I couldn't help but think of Showgirls, the 1995 controversial film which is by far a much better movie.
Burlesque is exactly the same movie without the sex and nudity and a few musical numbers added in between. In fact, it's a much more boring film that feels like a toned down after school special. There's nothing special here at all. The performances, for the most part seem dialed in, although I'll give credit to Christina Aguilera, that girl can sing and she tries every attempt to make something out of this dreck of a screenplay. Cher is awful and its hard to believe she even agreed to be in something like this. Especially after proving her acting chops in some of her previous films. (Mask and Moonstuck come to mind.).
This film is filled with cliche, cheesy dialogue and I have to ask myself why it was even made. If there was a stand-out moment, it was the last 10 minutes which was by far the highlight of the entire film.
Skip it.....don't even bother.
