My personal theory is they just put it up in a few theaters for shits and giggles before hitting the cult film circuit. While it did have it's moments, nothing helps it stand on it's own two feet.
It's a crazy ass mashup of "Absolute Beginners" without the music "Sin City" without the gripping plot and "Suckerpunch" without the little whorehouse in your head. It should have just bowed it's head and gone directly to video like the not-quite good movie it is.
