Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Solartron — 08 Mar 2019
Bumblebee feels like a weight has been lifted off. It's refreshing to see what a Transformers film can do with a much better director. Travis Knight does a great job balancing action, emotion, and comedy into Bumblebee.
The first two minutes sums up everything Transformers fans wanted. The connection between Charlie and Bumblebee is strong and something we rarely saw from Sam and Bumblebee after the first movie. The jokes were great, and some were not so great.
Most importantly, it didn't feel awkward compared to Bay. My biggest problem with this film is that it doesn't know what the movie is about. There are references to the first film while completely contradicting it.
Is it a reboot or a prequel? I understand why but it doesn't fit well. I would have rated this film much higher if the movie wasn't so inconsistent on that subject. Overall, it was a great movie that brings life into the franchise.
