Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Lewis C — 27 Dec 2018
Easily the best movie in the franchise. The action sequences are great and continue what the franchise is known for. Hailee Steinfeld is brilliant in the lead and her relationship with Bumblebee is special and the heart and soul of the film.
The movie is more grounded compared to the others, and focuses on the life and adventures of a teenage girl living in the suburbs in the 1980s. This is to the films advantage and possess some of the greatest moments.
Besides Steinfeldï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s Charlie, the rest of the characters can be bland and one dimensional, particularly the poor acting and character of John Cena. The story can be very familiar to other action and adventure movies, but I still enjoyed the film overall.
This is a major step forward for the franchise, easily being the best one and providing a solid foundation for future sequels.
